GOLD GTO
Where did the 1963 - 1974 Pontiac GTO ~ go?
First, I wanted to know what did GTO stand for? The answer, I learned was Grand Turismo Omologato which is Italian and means homologated (recognized for competition) grand-touring car. The GTO was marketed by the Pontiac division of General Motors until 1974. The first generation of the GTO is the car accredited with starting the MUSCLE CAR market, and from 1968 - 72 the Pontiac GTO was nicknamed ‘The Great One’. The original selling price of the GTO’s during the 60’s and early 70’s was around $3,100. Today, the GTO can sell for more than $84,000 with an average selling price around $63,000 - $43,000 and some have sold for over a 100,000. Of course, that all depends on condition. Obviously, the early GTO’s have become vintage cars to collect and owning one is apparently a good investment.
This Spinnerette.Anagram gave me the opportunity to look at the Muscle Cars of the past, the present and the future. I learned that Muscle Cars are still in production although their demand is shrinking due to the environmental concerns of gas-driven vehicles. However, I was surprised to learn that over the last decade Muscle Cars were still in production such as the Dodge Charger and the Dodge Challenger but 2023 was to be their last year. This year, Dodge introduced their all-electric Charger Daytona SRT with Electric Muscle Features. Of course, the future of the Muscle Car has yet to be determined. Unquestionably, the Environmental Impact of gas-driven vehicles will continue to play a significant role in our planet’s sustainability. Indubitably, Electric Vehicles [EV] will become the car of the future and whether or not the aesthetics and the road-power of the early Classic Muscle Cars return is yet to be decided. So for me and perhaps other nostalgic car enthusiast that remember these beautiful cars but can’t afford to own one, we can certainly understand their appeal and appreciate the yesteryears of them racing and gracing our American roadways.
A DADDY LONGLEGS: While I was researching the GTO - Classic Muscle Cars, I was tempted to tackle the future of Gas Stations needed for the Classic Gems of our past. Consequently, I decided to save that conversation for another Spinnerette.Anagram.
