The Dandelion Seed-head / Magical Seed Puff Wish:
Today’s Spinnerette.Anagram was particularly amusing for me to visualize because when I grew-up our backyard during the summer had plenty of Dandelions to wish-upon. As I recall, my mother’s wish was that they would vanish, but I loved blowing and wishing on them. So, the decision to picture my beloved Dandelion as the method one could wish upon was an easy selection. When did people start wishing on Dandelion Seed-heads? Well, no one knows exactly when, but it is believed to have begun sometime between the 18th and 19th centuries. The dandelion is part of the Daisy / Sunflower family that has been around for thousands of years and has been utilized for medicines, dyes and food. The magical Seed Puff is known scientifically as “Pappus”; they symbolize transformation and renewal. The wishing on a Dandelion expresses hope and positivity. Legend/Folklore believed that when you blew on the dandelion’s fragile white seed-head your most precious wish would come true. On the authority of, fairylandtrust.org, the flying seeds become fairies and carry your wishes.

The Wishing Well: This legend stems from Germanic and Celtic folklore. They believed that springs and wells were sacred and that spirits/deities lived in the well to keep the water clean. The belief was that if you spoke your wish into the well it would be granted. Overtime, the people began placing a coin into the wells after making a wish in hopes that their wish would have a better chance of being granted.
The Magic Genie “Lamp/Bottle” can grant the bearer Three Wishes. As children, most of us all hoped that we would find that Magic “Lamp/Bottle”. The history behind Genies or djinns are from pre-Islamic and Islamic mythology. They were thought to be supernatural creatures that had the ability to shape-shift, possess others and were thought to be mad. In later years, they were associated with granting the Three-Wish-Rule that would set them free from their containment in the Magic “Lamp/Bottle”.

As claimed by wish.org the foundation provides the wishes through the help from individual contributions, corporate donations, foundation grants, planned gifts and chapter fees and assessments. Last year [2023] basketball legend, Michael Jordan made the largest individual donation in the amount of $10 MILLION to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Michael Jordan has been an active individual contributor for the past 30 years. In 2008, he was named Make-A-Wish Chief Ambassador for the life-changing impact he has had on “wish kids” and their families.
