A CYBER MKTS MAP
MAP is a symbolic depiction of selected characteristics of a place usually drawn on a flat surface. Maps visualize the world in a simplistic way diagraming the parts of something. Today’s spinnerette maps out the intriguing world of the CYBER MARKETPLACE.
In the 1940’s a research group involving Norbert Wiener and Arturo Rosenblueth coined the word Cybernetics an exploration into “theological mechanisms” and was later acknowledged in Wiener’s book printed in 1948 titled Cybernetics: Or Control and Communication in the Animal and the Machine. As a standalone neologism, Cybernetics formed a basketful of derivative words. According to my trusty American Heritage Dictionary from 1970 Cybernetics is the theoretical study of control processes in electronic, mechanical and biological systems especially the mathematical analysis of the flow of information in such systems. As an adjective it relates to or is characteristic of the culture of computers, information technology, and virtual reality. Over the last seventy-six years, the term Cyber has conjured many compound words such as, cybersecurity/cyber surveillance, cyberspace, cyberpunk, cyber warfare, cyber defense and so on.
Today’s Spinnerette has given me an opportunity to research the current trends associated with the Cyber Industry and the stock market. Twenty-two years ago my son in his 13th year created a video entitled, Cyber Surveillance: Privacy vs Safety which garnered enough attention to send his video to our states History Fair that year. In his video he covered the various software that our government utilized to maintain security such as Carnivore implemented in 1997 (renamed DCS1000) designed to monitor email and electronic communications, Magic Lantern a keystroke logging software and Echelon a surveillance program operated by the five signatory states first formed in 1943 known as the BRUSA Agreement before being officially enacted in 1946 by the United Kingdom and the United States becoming known as UKUSA Security Agreement: Australia, Canada, New Zealand (were added in the following years) United Kingdom and the United States; the signatory countries are also known as the Five Eyes. Surprisingly this past October, the first KNOWN public meeting of the Five Eyes leaders occurred at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution in California. At the time my son produced his video, the Cyber Industry was in its infancy. Today the bustling world of the Cyber Industry continues its expansion and yet there still remains the moral dilemma of its reach. Regretfully, in today’s BLOG, I will only touch the surface of this ever-growing Industry.

Recently, my Facebook account was hacked and my access has been erased. I now find myself trying to recover my access to my account. For this reason, I especially wanted to explore Cybersecurity. According to www.synopsys.com the definition of Cybersecurity can be described as the collective methods, technologies and processes to help protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of computer systems, networks and data against cyber-attacks or unauthorized access. There are six types of cybersecurity: network security, application security, information security, cloud security, loT security, and identity and access management. While researching this area of Cyber, I discovered and to no surprise, the Cybersecurity MarketPlace is thriving. In 2022, the Cybersecurity Market in North America was valued at US$67.77 BILLION and continues to grow at a CAGR (compound annual growth rate) of 12.7%. As stated by, www.statista.com the worldwide Cybersecurity market is projected to grow by 10.56% (2024-2028) resulting in a market volume of US$273.60 BILLION by 2028. Wow!
