CK APOLLO
CK is an abbreviation for the verb CHECK meaning to inspect or examine. As a noun it conveys an act of making sure that something is safe, correct or in good condition. In Etymology the word is attributed to a financial meaning from “a check against forgery”. It is also the term used in chess to signify control. In the banking system a check is a document that orders a bank to pay a specific amount of money from one person’s account to another person, which has been phasing out over the last decade. As seen in my visualization above, I elected to pick the verb form to examine the NASA’s Apollo Moon Missions. The name Apollo was given to the Moon Missions because some historic imagery depicts the God Apollo riding his chariot across the Sun.
APOLLO from Greo-Roman mythology is the God of the Sun and light, healing, medicine, archery, music, dance, poetry, prophecy, knowledge, and divine distance. He made men aware of their guilt and purified them of it. He communicated with mortals through prophets and oracles his knowledge of the future and the will of his father Zeus.
APOLLO the Moon Missions were conducted by the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration known as NASA in the 1960’s and 1970’s. During the 60’s and 70’s NASA landed the first humans to walk on the Moon with Apollo 11 in 1969 and the last NASA astronauts to walk on the Moon in 1972. Overall, 24 astronauts visited the Moon and 12 astronauts walked on the Moons surface. There were 35 Apollo Missions: 23 were uncrewed test flights and 12 were crewed.
The cost of the Missions were an estimated US$24.4 BILLION in 1973 = today to US$178 BILLION.
The return to lunar exploration began again in 2022 with Artemis I (Apollo’s sister - Goddess of the Moon). It was an uncrewed mission to once again orbit the Moon. The mission achieved 25 days, 10 hours and 53 minutes traveling 1.3 million miles. The companies involved in manufacturing the Artemis I were Boeing, Airbus Defence and Space, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Aerojet Rocketdyne, Redwire Space and ULA. Artemis II is anticipated to launch sometime next year and will be crewed. The projected cost for the Artemis I & II is expected to reach approximately US$93 BILLION.
