OWL INN

Today’s Spinnerette.Anagram is intended to cover the Industry of Hospitality, but I also thought it would be interesting to include a little information about the iconography of Owls, too.

In reviewing the iconography of Owls, I found that they have several meanings. Some cultures view the owl as a symbol for Wisdom & Knowledge. For instance, the Greek goddess Athena is shown with an owl representing intelligence and insight. Furthermore, owls are nocturnal creatures, often associated with the night and the mysteries it holds. They have the ability to see in the dark which has led to their symbolism of intuition and the unseen. They are seen as messengers or omens, particularly related to change, death and the transition between life and the after life. In certain Native American traditions, owls are viewed as protectors and guardians. They are often seen as spiritual guides that can help navigate through unknown territories.

Clearly, it is easy to understand how the image of an Owl could become an icon for hospitality.

A DADDY LONGLEGS: Whenever I see the opportunity to point out additional anagrams with my game, I take it. This particular anagram is from the word Owls which is a common term used in the Stock Market known as LOWS. It also spells SLOW; It makes me wonder which word came first! The answer is Owls!

First of all, Yes, there are Owl Inns. While they may not be as widely recognized as a Marriott, Hilton or Hyatt, the Owl Inn is a name that has been used by various establishments, often as a charming or whimsical name for a bed and breakfast or a small hotel.

A brief history of Hospitality:

The concept of hospitality dates back thousands of years, with its roots in ancient civilizations. While it's difficult to pinpoint an exact beginning, hospitality practices can be traced to ancient Mesopotamia around 3000 BCE, where inns were established for travelers. In ancient Greece and Rome, hospitality was considered a sacred duty, often linked to the gods. The Greeks had a term, "xenia," which described the bond of hospitality between a host and a guest. Similarly, in ancient Rome, the practice of welcoming travelers into one’s home was a valued social norm. Throughout history, hospitality evolved, but its core principle of welcoming and caring for guests has remained a constant theme.
