BIG WEAPONS

Today’s Spinnerette has given me an opportunity to speak about the three dominant businesses that manufacture Big Weapons listed on the WSJ top 1000.

Lockheed Martin Corporation (LMT) is a pioneer of high-performance missiles. The company is an American aerospace, arms, defense, information security and technology corporation headquartered in Bethesda, MD. The company manufactures a long list of Big Weapon systems some include air-to air missiles, man-portables short-range anti-armor and assault weapons, kinetic energy hyper-velocity missiles. Currently, they are creating a combat cruise-missile-destroying 500 kilowatts of pure energy laser for the Department of Defense.

RTX Corporation formerly Raytheon Technologies Corporation is an American multinational aerospace and defense conglomerate and is one of the largest in the world. It is also one of the largest providers of intelligence services. Some of the company’s manufacturing of Big Weapons include guided missiles, air defense systems, and drones. They are a large military contractor and receive notable revenue from the United States Government. The company is headquartered in Arlington, VA.

Northrop Grumman Corporation (NOC) is a global aerospace and security company. They lead the development of the B-21 Raider which is a long-range stealth strategic bomber that is capable of dropping conventional and nuclear weapons. The company was the only one to bid on the Air Force’s Ground Based Strategic Deterrent program which aims to develop and build a new intercontinental ballistic missile. The company is headquartered in West Falls Church, VA.

A DADDY LONGLEGS: In 1994 Northrop Aircraft bought Grumman Aerospace which built the Apollo Lunar Module and created Northrop Grumman Corporation. Both company’s began in the 1930’s and were pioneers in developing military defense products.

Revenue is approx. US$36.60 BILLION and employ 95,000.

Also, I wanted to write about the Atomic Bomb. Recently, I watched the movie Oppenheimer and was saddened by the bombing and the aftermath of this destructive weapon on Japan. Although I’m aware of the importance of our country’s safety and that we have to continue to be vigilant especially after the horrific events of 911; I still feel overwhelmed when I hear about the scarring from war and the powerful weapons that inflict irreversible destruction. As a conclusion, I wonder why there cannot be a peaceful solution when there is conflict between countries. Mahatma Gandhi profoundly voiced “An eye for an eye will only make the whole world blind”.

A DADDY LONGLEGS: Regrettably, I have only been able to touched the surface of this controversial topic. It has been extremely interesting to research the top three company’s that supply our country with Big Weapons as well as other significant technological products that help keep our country safe. Possibly, this topic may emerge again in a Spinnerette and give me a chance to further my research.
